POS Advanced Receipt Design is an Odoo module that replaces the standard Point of Sale receipt with one of 8 ready thermal receipt designs. What the module is for

The module lets you design Point of Sale receipts without writing code. All 8 designs are black-and-white layouts built for 58 mm and 80 mm thermal printers. The on-screen receipt, the paper print and the customer email use the same layout, so they look identical.

You can:

• Pick one of 8 ready designs and adjust it with a live preview.
• Show or hide individual blocks such as tax ID, cashier, SKU codes or the order barcode.
• Add your logo, a custom QR code, promo coupons and return terms.
• Print in 18 languages, or print bilingual receipts such as Arabic + English with right-to-left layout.
• Ask the AI Receipt Assistant to change the layout in plain language, then review the result before saving.

Requirements

Installation and setup

1. Install the module

1. Get the module from the store page.
2. Add it to your Odoo.sh repository or your server's addons path. [CHECK: delivery format and recommended deployment steps from the store]
3. In Odoo, go to Apps, update the apps list, search for POS Advanced Receipt Design and click Install.

Point of Sale and the free AI Base module are installed and configured automatically.

If you manage a self-hosted server from the command line, you can also install by technical name:

2. Enable Advanced Receipts

1. Go to Point of Sale › Configuration › Settings.
2. Select the Point of Sale you want to configure.
3. In the Bills & Receipts section, enable Advanced Receipt Design.
4. Choose your default template.
5. Save.

Settings are per Point of Sale, so repeat this for each counter that should use the advanced receipt.

3. Customize in Receipt Designer

Open the Receipt Designer [CHECK: menu path or button to open Receipt Designer]. From here you pick a design, toggle blocks, add your logo and QR code, or let the AI Assistant configure it with a prompt. The sections below explain each part.

4. Reload the POS and sell

Reload your Point of Sale session. From then on, customer receipts, printouts and digital emails use your customized design.

Using the main features

Choosing one of the 8 designs

The module ships with these designs:

To switch designs:

1. Open the Receipt Designer for your Point of Sale.
2. Select a design.
3. Check the live preview.
4. Save, then reload the POS session.

Working with the live preview

The preview shows the exact printed receipt in real time as you toggle blocks, change fonts or adjust branding.

1. Choose the paper width, 58 mm or 80 mm, to match your printer. [CHECK: name of the paper size control]
2. Make a change, for example hide the order barcode.
3. Watch the preview update.
4. Save when you are happy with the result.

Always preview at the paper width you actually use. A layout that fits comfortably on 80 mm can feel crowded on 58 mm.

Showing and hiding blocks

You can show or hide these blocks:

• Company address
• Tax ID / GSTIN
• Cashier
• Customer
• Product SKU codes
• Discounts
• Savings banner
• Amount in words
• Order barcode

Toggle each block in the designer and confirm the result in the preview. A short receipt with only the blocks you need saves paper and is easier for customers to read.

Adding your logo, QR code and promotions

1. Upload your logo in the designer. [CHECK: logo field name and recommended image size or format]
2. Add a custom QR code and enter its target, such as a review page, digital menu, Wi-Fi details or your website. [CHECK: QR code field names and Wi-Fi format]

4. Check the preview, then save.

Because the receipts are black-and-white, use a logo that still reads clearly in pure black on white.

Using the AI Receipt Assistant

The AI Receipt Assistant changes receipt settings from plain-language requests. It works with any provider configured in AI Base, including Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek and local LLMs.

First, connect a provider:

1. Open the AI Base settings. [CHECK: menu path for AI Base provider configuration]
2. Choose your provider and enter the API key, or point it at your local LLM. [CHECK: field names for provider, model and key]
3. Save.

Then use the assistant:

1. Open the Receipt Designer.
2. Open the AI Assistant. [CHECK: name or location of the assistant panel]
3. Type a request in plain words.
4. Review the updated layout in the preview.
5. Save if it looks right, or refine your request.

Example requests:

Add the GST number and cashier name
Hide the barcode and enlarge text
Show the savings banner and amount in words
Add a QR code to our review page

The assistant only updates the layout for your review. Nothing is saved until you confirm it.

Printing in other languages and bilingual receipts

Receipts can print in the cashier's, the company's or the customer's language. You can also enable a second language to print bilingual labels, for example الإجمالي / Total. Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Urdu use a right-to-left layout automatically.

1. Activate the languages you need in Odoo General Settings. The module can only use languages that are active there.
2. In the receipt settings for your Point of Sale, choose which language the receipt uses: cashier, company or customer. [CHECK: field name for receipt language]
3. To print bilingual receipts, enable Second Language and choose the language. [CHECK: exact location of the Second Language setting]
4. Check the preview, save and reload the POS.

Printing offline

The logo, barcodes, QR codes and translated labels are cached in the browser POS session. If the internet drops, receipts still print normally. Load the POS session at least once while online after any design change, so the latest assets are cached.

Using the counter design switcher

Cashiers can switch between receipt templates directly from the POS receipt screen. This is useful to reprint an order with a different layout, for example the Tax Invoice design for a business customer.

1. Complete or open an order on the POS receipt screen.

3. Print or reprint the receipt.

Different designs per counter

Receipt design and formatting settings are configured independently per Point of Sale. A shop counter can use Elegant Boutique while a cafe counter in the same database uses Restaurant & Cafe.

Tips

• Match the preview width to the paper in each printer before fine-tuning.
• Start from the design closest to your business type, then toggle blocks, rather than changing everything at once.
• Keep AI requests short and specific, and change one thing at a time so the result is easy to check.
• Test print on the real printer after each significant change. Different printers can render fonts slightly differently.
• Remember to reload the POS session after saving changes.
• Activate languages in General Settings before you try to select them for receipts.

Limitations

• Odoo Online (SaaS) is not supported. Custom modules require Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting.
• Certified fiscal receipts. Localizations that require certified legal content, such as Saudi ZATCA QR or German TSE, should keep standard receipts.
• Loyalty data is not printed yet. Loyalty point balances, coupon codes and eWallet details from pos_loyalty do not appear on the advanced receipt.
• Fixed black-and-white layouts. Colors and custom CSS positioning are not supported.
• Amount in words is English only, including the Indian lakh/crore format for INR.
• Languages must be active in General Settings before you can select them for receipts.

FAQ

Which Odoo versions and hostings are supported?

Odoo 19.0 and 20.0, Community and Enterprise, on Odoo.sh or self-hosted servers. Odoo Online (SaaS) is not supported.

Do I need an AI provider key?

No. The visual designer, all 8 designs, thermal layouts and 18 languages work completely without AI. You only need a key for the conversational assistant.

Will it work with my thermal printer?

Yes. All designs are pure black-and-white layouts optimized for standard 58 mm and 80 mm thermal paper rolls. Printing works through ESC/POS, an IoT Box or browser print.

Can different counters use different designs?

Yes. Receipt design and formatting settings are configured independently per Point of Sale.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. The logo, barcodes, QR codes and translated labels are cached in the browser POS session, so receipts print normally offline.

Can I print Arabic and English on the same receipt?
